Bone Density Scanner is an enhanced type of X-Ray designed specifically to scan bone density or measure the amount of bone loss in the body. The device itself has a long, flat table with an overhead arm that moves across your body while performing the scan. The patient simply lies on a comfortable table while the scan is being performed. The two x-rays sent out by the machine are very low doses. One of the rays is absorbed by the soft tissue while the other is absorbed by the bone. The difference in numbers will be the amount of bone density in the patient. The whole process takes less than 10 minutes. You should try to avoid metal on your clothes the day of the scan to avoid having to put on a gown.
